Client: City of Trondheim (via EIT Urban Mobility challenge)
Delivery Partner: Digiflec
Project Duration: June – December 2025
Theme: Urban Logistics | Smart Cities | LiDAR Technology
Overview
Digiflec is leading the Raptor project in Trondheim; a bold initiative to tackle last-mile inefficiencies and illegal parking in loading and unloading bays. The project supports EIT Urban Mobility’s strategic goals by reducing congestion, improving air quality, and unlocking real-time urban intelligence for planners and logistics operators alike.
Through our proprietary CiiM platform and LiDAR-based monitoring, we’re transforming loading zones from unmanaged spaces into real-time, data-rich assets.
The City Challenge
Trondheim’s city leaders identified a key challenge: inefficient, unauthorised, and congested loading bay usage in the city centre. With no visibility into occupancy or misuse, delivery vehicles often idle or double-park, creating unnecessary emissions, safety concerns, and traffic disruptions.
Our Solution
Digiflec is deploying a full-stack LiDAR solution across priority loading bay sites, combining:
- High-accuracy LiDAR sensors
- Edge compute with GDPR-compliant perception software
- CiiM dashboarding and insight platform
- Cloud-based reporting and KPIs for city teams
This enables:
Real-Time Occupancy Data
Logistics providers can see when bays are free and plan deliveries accordingly.
Reduced Unauthorised Use
Ongoing monitoring discourages misuse and supports enforcement.
Improved Urban Experience
Less idling, better traffic flow, and cleaner air — benefiting businesses, residents, and visitors.
Collaboration
This project is a partnership in the truest sense. By working closely with municipal teams, logistics operators, and urban planners, we’re demonstrating the power of data-driven, citizen-centric urban mobility.
What’s Next?
Over the coming months, we’ll share more updates from Trondheim — including early insights, partner interviews, and impact analysis.
Stay tuned for the full case study once the project wraps in December.
